The Rose
Hello all bookworms!
On my blog, I have a poem, quote, and some book reviews! It will be complete soon, I just have to add a short story so here it is:
The Rose.
I woke up feeling empty. Instead of pulling my school uniform I walked pass it with sigh. No school for me today- or forever I thought. I had left school two weeks ago, and had gotten my first job, hoping it would help to make a living. Dad was still ill and mum- well she passed away when Lucy was born.
I made Lucy's lunch and got her uniform off the line. It was her first day of year two, and she was really excited. I woke her up, helped her get dressed and yanked her blonde hair into two plaits. "Thanx Mel." she said as she kissed me goodbye and disappeared out the door. I heard her laughter and chatter, as she walked to school with Anne her best friend and our neighbour. These past few years hadn't affected her as it had affected me, but then again she was younger.
I cleaned the house a bit and put dad's medicine next to his bed. He looked so frail and old- not a bit like the dad I remembered, the strong and happy dad. My shift started in half an hour and I got ready. Before walking out the door I looked in the mirror and greeted the stranger that stared back. I looked much older and tense. My dark brown curls was in a small bun and my hazel eyes looked more brown today. I was the alien of the family. The only one with dark hair and hazel eyes. Mum, dad and Lucy all had golden - blondish hair with blue eyes. Mum always said to me, " Melissa just because you are different doesn't mean there's something wrong with you, you are unique."
Outside our front garden looked a mess! The grass was dead and it looked dull. I was about to cross the street, when something in our garden caught my eye, something bright. I walked up to and there was mums favourite bracelet, the one dad had given to her. My eyes went blurry with tears and my heart sore. Next to the bracelet was a rose. A red rose against all the dead grass and prickles - a beacon of hope.
Remember guys, to never give up hope! Where there is darkness light will eventually shine!
Hope you enjoyed my short story,
Saf

The Outsiders
Heyy! =)
Our new book for this week is.....(DRUM ROLL PLEASE)......... The Outsiders, by S.E Hinton!
According to Ponyboy, there are two kinds of people in the world: greasers and socs. A soc (short for "social") has money, can get away with just about anything, and has an attitude longer than a limousine. A greaser, on the other hand, always lives on the outside and needs to watch his back. Ponyboy is a greaser, and he's always been proud of it, even willing to rumble against a gang of socs for the sake of his fellow greasers--until one terrible night when his friend Johnny kills a soc. The murder gets under Ponyboy's skin, causing his world to crumble and teaching him that pain feels the same whether a soc or a greaser.
Ponyboy always learn things the hard way like;
Ponyboy Curtis is an orphan and lives with his brothers (Darry and Sodapop Curtis) and their gang.
(Two-bit Mathews, Steve Randle, Dallas Winston a.k.a Dally, and lastly Johnny Cade a.k.a Johnny Cake.)
Being a greaser sure isn't easy and with Darry being hardcore all the time, and the socs closing in makes life tough. Ponyboy accepts what life throws at him, but when his best friend Johnny Cake murders someone to save Ponyboy life's really a challenge!
The outsiders is my all time favourite book! I definitely recommend it! The outsiders is so moving and is the best ever! I've read over and over again and cried every time I've read, even though I know what's going to happen! S.E Hinton is an amazing author and the outsiders is one amazing book!!
- There's no place like home.
- Family isn't just by blood.
- Everybody has pain and feels emotions.
- and mostly life always has its challengers.

Path Of Peace
Peace Everybody! =)
Path of Peace,
Peace is an easy path to tread
Peace is where our fears are mislaid
Peace is beginning to restore
Peace for each man, woman and child
Peace for the troubled streets gone wild
Peace is for the old and the young
Peace in the end will overcome
Peace builds trust into a lifestyle
Peace is a friendly open hand
Peace is a place to understand
Peace in the end will overcome
Peace is for the old and the young
Peace is a legacy to leave
Peace is when we don't have to grieve
Peace is an end to all the hate
Peace is why we negotiate
Peace for all the victims of war

Love this poem,

Matilda
HEY GUYS!! =)
So, previously on my post I had quoted a saying from a famous and loved book and I thought that should be our first novel for me to review. So INTRODUCING.......... Matilda by Roald Dahl!!
Matilda Wormwood's father is a mean crook.
And her mother's just plain stupid.
They think Matilda is a nuisance who should
watch more TV and read fewer books!
But her lovely teacher Miss Honey thinks Matilda is a genius.
Matilda has a few extraordinary tricks up her sleeve,
so her horrible parents and even more horrible
headmistress had better watch out.
(Blurb from the back of Matilda)
Matilda is a book mainly for children aged 8 and up. It is told by the perspective of 5 year old Matilda Wormwood. Matilda lives with her parents and her older brother, Michael. Life is hard for Matilda as she finds that all the adults she knows are dumb and mean, all except Miss Honey Matilda's school teacher. She has an extraordinary talent that no other 'normal' kids have, she is a genius! Matilda has some plans for these adults, with the help of her talent can she pull it off?? One little girl against a group of nasty and mean adults, will she win??
I really enjoyed Matilda. It was a funny novel and definitely a good read! Roald Dahl descriptively writes about Matilda's life in humour, suspense and reality of the way things are in life. I loved this book and was a favourite of mine when I was in primary school, and still enjoyed this best selling novel!!
