Hello all bookworms!
On my blog, I have a poem, quote, and some book reviews! It will be complete soon, I just have to add a short story so here it is:
The Rose.
I woke up feeling empty. Instead of pulling my school uniform I walked pass it with sigh. No school for me today- or forever I thought. I had left school two weeks ago, and had gotten my first job, hoping it would help to make a living. Dad was still ill and mum- well she passed away when Lucy was born.
I made Lucy's lunch and got her uniform off the line. It was her first day of year two, and she was really excited. I woke her up, helped her get dressed and yanked her blonde hair into two plaits. "Thanx Mel." she said as she kissed me goodbye and disappeared out the door. I heard her laughter and chatter, as she walked to school with Anne her best friend and our neighbour. These past few years hadn't affected her as it had affected me, but then again she was younger.
I cleaned the house a bit and put dad's medicine next to his bed. He looked so frail and old- not a bit like the dad I remembered, the strong and happy dad. My shift started in half an hour and I got ready. Before walking out the door I looked in the mirror and greeted the stranger that stared back. I looked much older and tense. My dark brown curls was in a small bun and my hazel eyes looked more brown today. I was the alien of the family. The only one with dark hair and hazel eyes. Mum, dad and Lucy all had golden - blondish hair with blue eyes. Mum always said to me, " Melissa just because you are different doesn't mean there's something wrong with you, you are unique."
Outside our front garden looked a mess! The grass was dead and it looked dull. I was about to cross the street, when something in our garden caught my eye, something bright. I walked up to and there was mums favourite bracelet, the one dad had given to her. My eyes went blurry with tears and my heart sore. Next to the bracelet was a rose. A red rose against all the dead grass and prickles - a beacon of hope.
Remember guys, to never give up hope! Where there is darkness light will eventually shine!
Hope you enjoyed my short story,
Saf
